Misión del cargo:

The primary objective of the Research Associate, Bioinformatics position is to expand the capabilities of the Protein Engineering area and contribute to platform development efforts. This involves ensuring the robustness of in silico processes and driving innovation within a collaborative research environment. This position is responsible for actively contributing to the creation of robust and reproducible data collection and analysis pipelines to support the development of our research projects. This includes analyzing large Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) datasets and handling genomic sequences in general. Additionally, familiarity with handling amino
acid sequences is required to ensure continuity in our research lines. A crucial aspect of the role will be presenting results, both internally to the Protein Engineering team and to other R&D teams. Finally, this role plays a fundamental part in maintaining and improving the Protein Engineering Platform, working closely with the wet lab team in the area and other departments within R&D.

Funciones del cargo:

1. Expansion of Protein Engineering Capabilities:

  • Designing, assembling, validating, and documenting genomic data analysis workflows in high-performance environments.
  • Validating Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) results and integrating them with analysis workflows.
  • Handling nucleotide and amino acid sequence data to evaluate parameters of interest in enzymatic candidates.
  • Managing data repositories and ensuring their integrity.
  • Coordinating requests from other areas to enable a smooth workflow.
  • Contributing to general Bioinformatics team initiatives such as discussing results or implementing new solutions.

2. Protein Engineering Platform:

  • Understanding, maintaining, and utilizing the protein engineering platform for R&D projects.
  • Proposing, designing, supporting, and executing initiatives aimed at improving the protein engineering platform.
  • Preparing comprehensive reports on assigned projects for internal and external parties.
  • Creating presentations that effectively communicate results and findings of literature research to internal and external audiences.

3. Collaborative Activities:

  • Actively participating in R&D initiatives and group discussions to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.
  • Attending and actively participating in regular meetings for assigned projects as well as R&D and Protein Engineering department meetings.
  • Contributing to patent drafting and publications.
  • Regularly updating research findings on project management platforms.

Requisitos:

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in bioinformatics, or alternatively biochemistry, biotechnology, or biology with demonstrable experience in bioinformatics.

Language:

  • An intermediate level (B1) of English proficiency is required. Proficiency levels above B1 are advantageous.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant full-time experience in R&D is required, or at least 1 year of specific experience in protein engineering is essential.
  • Understanding of experimental development used for protein engineering.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency in programming and data analysis languages such as Bash, Python, and R.
  • Experience working with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data and with common
  • tools for quality assessment, trimming, read mapping, and alignment handling in bam or similar formats.
  • Experience in handling nucleotide and amino acid sequences and using common tools for homology assessment, taxonomic inference, functional inference, and comparative analysis, among others.
  • Desirable: Experience in managing virtual environments like Conda or Jupyter

Notebooks and version control software like Git.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactivity in proposing, designing, supporting, and executing initiatives aimed at improving the protein engineering platform.
  • Ability to actively participate in R&D initiatives and group discussions to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.
